Values: Relevant

Preaching notes from a sermon on one of our church values: relevant by Rowena Cross. You can listen to a live recording of this message on our talks section of the website.

Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. - Phillippians 2:14-16 (NIV)

We believe the Gospel is the most important message anyone can hear

  • He wants us to be authentically His in the world He has placed us in. To shine and stand out.

  • The world tells us our faith is outdated, irrelevant, and even dangerous.  And for us to be relevant we must CHANGE the Gospel and water it down to keep up with the times – BUT the Gospel is the greatest message we can give someone and is as relevant today as it was when it was first spoken.

  • The bible leads us to have more wisdom, deeper roots and more light in us.  That will in turn enable us to live out true Relevance to the world and prevent us joining the world in its fake and very loud ‘relevance’ it pedals.

  • Stay in the truth of His word and that is how we stay truly relevant today.

Challenge: Around 30% of Christians read their bibles! Which means 70% look for answers elsewhere?!

We recently as a church did a three week prayer challenge, so let’s today start a three week bible reading challenge: Read your bible every day for three weeks. And then give any feedback by filling in a praise report form online OR sending us an email at: praise@stsaviourssunbury.org.uk – we’d love to hear how you get on.
